Didymocheton spectabilis

A forest tree growing 10-15m high. Very glossy, tropical-like foliage easily recognized by its flowering habit where sprays of waxy white flowers emerge from the trunk and main branches through winter and into early spring then forming bright orange-red fruit. Tui love feeding off the nectar and kereru thrive on the berries.
Although Kohekohe tolerates coastal sites it does prefer semi-shade or warm humid sheltered valleys and it is frost tender.
