Found in dry stony places throughout NZ, tolerates exposed coastal conditions.
Corokia cotoneaster is a evergreen divaricating shrub endemic to New Zealand. The shrub is distributed across New Zealand and is commonly found growing in dry and stony places. The cotoneaster can grow up to 3m if planted in a sheltered place otherwise its thin wiry branches will stay compact often having a similar spread. It has small, simple open star like yellow flowers in spring then red, yellow or orange drupes in autumn.
The Corokia cotoneaster is very tolerant of poor soils, dry and exposed sites. The plants tight nature makes it perfect for hedging but the plant also looks impressive when left to its own devices and the grey looking foliage can contrast nicely against other plants.
