Similar to C. australis but not so tall, the foliage is purple/bronze.

Cordyline australis 'Purpurea' is a variation of the Cordyline australis which is distinctive because of its smaller size roughly 5-7m in height and purple foliage.

This Cordyline grows best in deep, well-drained soil in full sun, and will tolerate alkaline soils and drier seaside locales. Reduce watering in winter months. Stems may be cut off and buds allowed to resprout, giving numerous possibilities for rejuvenating leaf heads at different heights. The Purpurea has a slower growth rate but because of its unique colour can be an asset to any plantings.
