Found from Mangonui to Marlborough. Attractive coastal tree growing up to 12m high with light green oval leaves.
Endemic to both the North and South Island, this attractive tree grows up to 12m tall with a broad canopy crown. It grows in coastal and lowland forests, preferring deep, fertile soils. Leaves are 3.5 - 8.5 cm long and 2-3.5 cm in width with margins with rounded teeth.
Flowers appear between August and October and are creamy in colour followed by red fleshy berries in October- April.
