Pomaderris rugosa is endemic to the North Island of New Zealand and inhabits coastal to lowland areas, commonly found in open scrub overlaying clay or other poor soils and rocks.
Pomaderris rugosa grows up to 3m tall and with its deep green leaves which have a rusty red underside it can be used as an alternative hedging plant. Its white flowers during summer attract the bees.
Does best in poor, free draining soils in full sun. Do not fertilise this tree! Also frost resistant.
