Prostrate or semi-prostrate shrub with light mauve flower spikes. Ideal for sprawling down banks.

Hebe obtusata is endemic to New Zealand, found naturally growing in the North Island on the Waitakere coastline from Muriwai to Huia and the southern reaches of the Kawhia Harbour. The habitat of this variety is strictly coastal and grows on sparsely vegetated steep slopes and banks, in low windswept scrub and on cliff faces and rock stacks. This hebe can reach a height of 0.5m and a spread of 1m. The sprawling shrub bears pairs of dark green leathery elliptical leaves and short spikes of pinkish mauve flowers that appear in summer through to winter.

This low growing Hebe is hardy and does best planted on sunny borders, banks or walls.
