Largest of the Chinochloa species, ideal as a feature plant. Minature toetoe.

Chinochloa conspicua, also known as minature toetoe is a native New Zealand alpine tussock which grows up to 1m tall. Referred to as miniature toetoe because of its similar golden feathery plumes which appear in the summer. Endemic to the North Island this grass is found in the Coromandel Peninsula and also can be found from the East Cape to Hawke's Bay.

The species is commonly used by councils on highway plantings because of its low maintenance. Chinochloa conspicua thrives in well drained, damp soils and open sunlight. The native grass is also frost hardy and adapts well to exposed sites.
