Pomaderis kumeraho is a coastal to lowland shrub that is endemic to New Zealand. The name 'kumeraho' is derived from a Maori word that signifies 'shrub'. The shrub is found grown in Northern pars of the North Island from Te Paki to south of the Kawhia Harbour and Te Kuiti in the west and the Northern Bay of Plenty in the east. Its habitat is often roadsides, banks and amongst gum land vegetation. Pomaderis kumeraho earns its common name 'Golden Tainui' in spring when clusters of bright yellow flowers appear. Also sometimes referred to as 'gumdiggers soap' because the flowers were once used by European settlers as soap.

This attractive shrub grows up to 4m tall and is ideal for small gardens. It prefers full sun, nutrient poor soils and resents competition from other plants. Can tolerate light frost. Pomaderis kumeraho can be rather short lived and temperamental in cultivation as it is prone to root rot so it is best to grow in exposed sites.
