Similar to P. insignis but has rusty brown undersides of the leaves.

Pachystegia rufa is a low growing spreading shrub that is native to New Zealand found growing on rocky hill sides and coastal situations in Marlborough. Similar to P. insignis but it has small leaves and is said to be hardier.

Large daisy like flowers occur in spring. Plant in well draining soil and in an area with plenty of sunlight. Tolerant to droughts and very dry conditions.

Unique plant looks great as specimen or in rock gardens.
