Found naturally in the northern part of the North Island, prefers more sheltered site.

Corokia buddleioides is an attractive native shrub easily distinguished by its narrow leaves with white undersides. It is from the Waitakere Ranges and the Coromandel peninsula northwards. The multi-branched shrub can grow up to 3m tall but is quite sensitive to harsh winds and extreme climates. In the spring buddleioides produces bright yellow star shaped flowers followed by dark red to black drupes.

In terms of planting the Corokia buddleioides requires a sheltered position with shade or semi-shade and well drained soil. It is the only species of corokia that will tolerate shade and if trimmed can be used for hedging.
